HANYS PARTNERS WITH TCFD AND OTHERS ON WAYS HOSPITALS CAN SUPPORT PATIENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

The Healthcare Associate of New York State (HANYS), in partnership with experts from New York City Health + Hospitals, The Center for Discovery® and University of Rochester Medical Center, developed a one-page summary of ways hospitals can support patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mitigate patient behavior safety risks.

The summary outlines steps to preventing patient behavior safety risks, including what a hospital needs to know in terms of medical, social and environmental, and behavioral aspects. In addition, it highlights ways to prepare from an environment and patient-centered approach, how to ease anxiety and tension, and steps to take after a behavior crisis event.
