Evening of Discovery Gala Honoring Brian Harper

On Tuesday, April 28th, 2026, The Center for Discovery (TCFD, The Center) honored Brian Harper, TCFD Board Member and parent, at its annual Evening of Discovery Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. The evening brought together leaders in business, healthcare, philanthropy, and the arts in support of The Center’s mission to advance care and opportunity for individuals with complex disabilities and medical needs. Brian was recognized for his extraordinary leadership, generosity, and deep commitment to improving outcomes for individuals with autism and their families. Inspired by his son, Caleb, Brian has become a passionate advocate for individuals on the autism spectrum. In addition to serving on The Center’s Board of Directors, he is a former Chairman of the Board and current Board Member of Autism Speaks, where he has helped advance research and advocacy for individuals with autism nationwide. Accepting the honor, Brian reflected on the profound impact The Center has had on his family and, in particular, on the way he sees his son. “When Caleb came to The Center, something shifted…I began to see my son differently. The Gala was co-hosted by Robin Roberts and longtime TCFD supporter Susie Essman, who brought warmth, energy, and humor to the evening. Robin spoke about the broader impact of The Center’s work, noting that its innovations in autism research and treatment and complex medical care are helping change the world. Susie was also presented with The Center’s inaugural MVP Award, recognizing her extraordinary heart, spirit, and unwavering support of The Center’s mission. Pasted markdown

The evening featured a formal dinner, live and silent auctions, and a program highlighting the life-changing impact of The Center’s work. Proceeds supported transformative programs including Animal Assisted Intervention and Education, Integrated Arts such as recreation and music therapy, assistive technology and innovation, and critical capital improvements across TCFD’s campuses. An internationally recognized research and innovation organization, The Center for Discovery serves more than 1,700 children and adults annually. The Center’s Children’s Specialty Hospital continues to expand access to comprehensive, highly specialized care for individuals with profound autism and medical complexity.
