Access to dental care remains one of the top unmet health needs for children and young adults with disabilities. To help close this gap, the NYU College of Dentistry recently brought its fifth pop-up clinic to The Center for Discovery in Monticello, offering free exams, X-rays, fluoride treatments, and sealants.
As featured on Mid-Hudson News, NYU faculty and trainees use sensory-sensitive models, including weighted blankets, therapeutic toys, and headphones, to ensure every patient feels secure and comfortable.
Eddy Rosenbaum, Director of NYU Dentistry’s Global Outreach program, shared, “We’re breaking down barriers so patients feel more comfortable with the dentist. Our approach is friendly, accessible, and approachable.”
Through this ongoing collaboration, NYU and TCFD continue to improve access to essential dental care for children and young adults with disabilities, creating healthier smiles and greater comfort in the dental chair.
