A MONTH OF DISCOVERY JANUARY 2023

THE CENTER FOR DISCOVERY

Friends and Supporters,

No snow, rain, or unpredictable winter weather can slow us down here at The Center for Discovery.

Last month, we visited our nation’s Capitol, further advancing deep relationships with our representatives and the USDA. We continued to watch the development of our Children’s Specialty Hospital with great anticipation, and paused to celebrate moments of awe and wonder as those in our care met goals and experienced new adventures.

Children’s Specialty Hospital Update

Our Children’s Specialty Hospital is in such beautiful shape. In some areas, the finishing touches are already taking place.

Recently, the bright front canopy was installed, as well as some decorative glass tiles. All flooring and carpeting was completed, and wood ceilings are in progress, as is lighting in many areas.

The kitchen essentials are installed. And the fun stuff – all the details that will make the CSH such an amazing, interactive, enriching place – are in the works. We are so grateful!

TCFD in DC

Our CEO Patrick H. Dollard,Chairman of the Board of Directors, Edward C. Sweeney and Executive VP of Strategic Communications Michael Rosen had a very successful trip to Washington last month.

They updated Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D, NY) on the status of the Children’s Specialty Hospital. Senator Schumer has been a long time champion of The Center and the Hospital, and helped us receive the critical USDA loan for development of the project. He expressed admiration for Patrick’s leadership and the work of our staff.

Patrick, Ed, and Michael also met with top officials at the USDA, including Xochitl Torres Small, USDA Under Secretary of Agriculture for Rural Development and USDA Assistant Secretary for Administration, Oscar Gonzales.

The day was rounded out with equally productive meetings with U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (R, NY) from USD 19 where TCFD is located, and the staff of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D, NY).

Snow Much Fun

Thank you to our Recreation Therapy and Residential teams who made a day at Windham Mountain something our residents will never forget. It truly is a once in a lifetime experience for all during the annual adaptive ski outings.
