The Importance of Employee Engagement and Wellness
As we continue to expand our vast network of more than 1,600 employees, staff connectivity and professional growth are just two areas that we are focused on, particularly staff retention.
In September of 2017, the Employee Engagement Initiative was launched as a way to promote connectivity throughout our many locations and departments, and to foster an environment where employees felt supported in their professional growth and connected to our mission.
Our Engagement Team, made up of six employees with diverse experiences, responsibilities, and roles across The Center, are leading this incredible initiative. Together, they work to inspire an organization of employees to further promote a community of appreciation, trust, and respect. Additionally, the program promotes shared experiences that energize interactions among all staff and create deeper connections to our overarching mission.
By promoting communication, visiting different locations, and talking with employees in real-time, the Engagement Team has made it their goal to energize interaction among all staff, collect feedback and suggestions on ways to improve our work culture, and to provide unique programming and incentive opportunities for our employees as added benefits to working here.
Stress has become prevalent in many people’s lives and there is a tremendous amount that can be done to combat it. Many benefits to managing stress include: looking forward to getting up in the morning, having more energy, feeling less burdened, starting the day with a positive outlook, and being able to make better decisions.
The main components of effective stress management include:
- Strong social support
- Healthy diet
- Adequate rest
- Relation techniques
- Realistic expectations
- Positive self-talk
- Time management
- Effective communication
At The Center for Discovery, we developed the Discovery Wellness Program, which is designed to assist with all of these components. The Discovery Wellness Program is made up of a diverse array of wellness offerings that target physical fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness. The program provides staff with access to: a state-of-the-art employee gym, miles of nature trails, a regulation size track, outdoor courts, and a pool, along with fitness, nutrition, financial wellbeing, and mindfulness classes.
The Discovery Wellness Program offers fitness faculties, classes, and events six days per week. What’s more, our internal Wellness and Events Calendar is designed to accommodate our staff member’s varying shifts and 24 hour care. Our Wellness Program is provided to all staff free of charge and staff are oftentimes incentivized to partake in Wellness classes during their free time.
Here at The Center, we put a profound emphasis on employee engagement and well-being and we are proud to be helping our staff live better, and healthier lives.
