Adult Programs

The Adult Services Program at the Center for Discovery provides quality caring and support designed to help each individual maximize his or her full potential. Dedicated and values driven staff, in conjunction with integrated clinic and health care services, provide rich and rewarding home lives for nearly 100 adults ranging in age from 21 to 90.

The program offers a variety of residential options, designed to meet each person's individual needs, in several communities and rural settings. Residences range from apartments to small five person homes on our renowned Thanksgiving Farm to larger Intermediate Care Facilities in local communities that provide the latest in therapeutic interventions, medical services and assistive technologies for those in need of more assistance.

In response to the changing needs of those we serve, the program operates a unique home for elders who have decided to retire to an active life of leisure pursuits. We also operate a new two-bedroom apartment for individuals with significant physical disabilities who are ready to live more autonomously and independently. Smaller individual residential alternatives for those who require technological or behavioral supports are planned to open soon with more to come.

Adults have opportunities to participate in a variety of activities at home, at The Center, and in their communities. Exercise classes, swimming in the Center's pool, and attending enrichment classes at Sullivan County Community College are just a few examples of the many possibilities. Individuals have vacationed in Lake George, Atlantic City and even Las Vegas. We are dedicated to supporting individuals in living meaningful and active and lives.

The Staff of the Adult Services Residential Program strongly believe in the value and worth of each person served. We treat people with respect and dignity. We know that, given the right environments and encouragement, everyone can succeed.

The program offers a wide variety of leisure/recreational activities with an emphasis on individual preferences and community participation, meaningful activities that enhance and push people to achieve their full potential while enjoying and learning appropriate community interaction. The values that drive our program are based on respect for all individuals, as each one of them is unique.

We strive to provide dignity to people by assisting them with their needs and providing support for individuals to achieve their dreams. We focus on moving people forward to gain a level of self-confidence and to develop the necessary skills to live more independently. Family participation is essential and serves as a focal point for our mission, which is to provide people with significant disabilities comfortable, homelike environments and innovative clinical, medical and educational opportunities designed to enrich their lives.
